WHERE IT ALL STARTED FROM…

We are two first generation farming brothers in Kent, Tom and Sam. Tom founded the farm in 2017 with a desire to do something a little different. As first generation farmers we have the ability to change things up, create a voice, an impression and make a difference within agriculture. Our passion for farming, people and food has evolved to become The Pure Meat Company.

We farm three hundred acres across the Weald of Kent, stitched together by dense hedgerows, deep rooted trees and a network of pure water courses. Our farmland is made up of permanent pasture, wild flower meadows and ancient woodlands, most of which have never seen a plough! Our permanent pasture is grazed by our Romney sheep and English Longhorn cattle. The dense hedgerows, headlands and woodlands are home to our herd of rare breed Tamworth pigs.

Life seems to be full of speed these days, but not here. Our native breeds give us no choice but to do things slowly. Not only are they beautiful, but we can’t rush how quickly they grow - which is perfect because we believe good things come to those who wait! The welfare of our animals is at the forefront of everything we stand for. If you understand the principles that go into our flocks and herds of native breeds, you understand us.

We farm ethically and sustainably, in complete harmony with nature. We raise native breeds that are suited to our farmland, farming regeneratively, enhancing our soils, supporting our pollinators and ensuring the wildlife flourishes alongside our native breeds to create a system with absolute integrity.

We are striving to produce meat with unrivalled quality that tastes sensational. We have total control over every stage of producing our meat, from beginning to end. It’s this thoughtful and intentional approach which produces very special and very honest meat - just as nature intended.

OUR VALUES

Eat less meat

It simply isn’t sustainable for the world to keep up consuming the amount of meat it is. Consumers have become incredibly detached from the long process it takes to produce food because it is so readily available. We believe we should all eat less meat, but when we do, it should be better quality meat. It may cost that little bit more, but you will enjoy delicious, nourishing meat which is sustainably and ethically raised, safe in the knowledge that your choice has enabled the animal to be cared for in a landscape that is nurtured and protected.

Farming with integrity

We farm ethically and sustainably, in harmony with the environment around us, to produce healthy and nutritious meat. Our animals are raised as nature intended, maintaining the highest standards of welfare. Farming with a conscience, carefully and mindfully. We strive to go above and beyond, and hold ourselves accountable for ethical and environmental standards.

Slow food

The basic principle of everything we do is allowing our native breeds to grow slowly, in their own time, until they reach natural maturity. Feeding our animals the correct diet and providing their ideal living environment means healthy, happy animals, that grow totally at their own pace. You can’t rush a native breed to grow, which is perfect to us as we really do believe good things come to those who wait!

Native breeds

Farming native breeds means they are perfectly suited to the environment and farmland that we farm. They thrive on a low input farming system and live alongside all our beautiful wildlife, working harmoniously with one another, as nature intended.

Regenerative farming

Regenerative farming is a system of combined farming principles and techniques of holistic management, agroforestry, permaculture, agroecology and restoration ecology, which collectively enhance and rehabilitate biodiversity and eco systems of the farm. We nurture our soils, pastures and water courses by rejecting the use of pesticides, artificial fertilisers and chemical inputs. This means we focus on strengthening the resilience of our soils, pasture and water courses. Everything for us starts from the soil up.

Permanent pasture

Our permanent pasture provides our ruminants with 100% of their diet. Diverse, herb-rich pastures are nutritious and not only provide food for our native breeds, but are home to millions of pollinators. Insects, bugs and invertebrates in turn provide food for the many birds that nest within the deep hedgerows that stitch together the patchwork quilt of fields that is the British countryside. Permanent pasture is the key to carbon sequestration, storing tonnes and tonnes of atmospheric carbon. If pasture isn’t grazed, it doesn’t thrive - and a healthy pasture means healthy soil and a perfect carbon store. You see, we need the cows… “Its not the cow, it’s the how”.

 First generation family farm.

Our first generation family farm is all about setting a genuine ethical and sustainable example in farming. Farming native breeds in harmony with nature, we are farming with a difference; honestly and with total transparency. We’re two first generation farming brothers on a mission to educate people of the importance of buying meat with a conscience, and the story behind the food they eat. Connecting people, our farm and food together is exactly what we set out to do.

Farming for the future.

We are setting a standard for farming. By supporting us, you are supporting innovative farming, the future of our planet, outstanding animal welfare and you are able to feed your family healthy, ethical and sustainable food.
